Galveston County Election Procedures

VOTER ELIGIBILITY

  1. Galveston County Resident
  2. Eighteen (18) years old or older

ACCEPTABLE PROOF OF RESIDENCY- will include but is not limited to the following:

(ALL PROOF OF RESIDENCY MUST INCLUDE NAME AND ADDRESS OF VOTER)

  1. Current Texas Driver’s License
  2. Current Texas I.D. Card
  3. Current Voter Registration Card
  4. Current Utility Bill
  5. Current Lease or Rent Receipt
  6. Food Stamp ID
  7. Veterans Registration Card
  8. Health Insurance Card
  9. Association/Membership Cards
  10. Any other documents that specify name and address of voter

RULES FOR FILING OF CANDIDATES

  1. Filing Dates: November 15, 2021, through November 17, 2021
  2. Eligibility to File as Candidate

    A. Sixteen (18) years old or older

    B. Proof of residency in area candidate will represent (Galveston County)

  3. No person who is an employee or related to an employee of GCCAC, or a Federal Grantee Agency may qualify as a candidate unless he/she resigns before filing.
  4. Each candidate must file in person with GCCAC offices in respective county which they are running to represent.

ELECTION DAY SCHEDULE

The Polling Station will be open from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 4700 Broadway – Suite C-100, Galveston, Texas 77551. There will be no campaigning done inside the polling place. All campaigning must be kept 100 ft. outside the premises.

RUN OFF

A run-off election will be held, if necessary.

VOTER ASSISTANCE

Voters needing assistance because of language difficulty, physical or educational handicap, may be assisted by an Election Judge or a person designated by the Election Judge, providing his choice is not a candidate. A Bilingual Election Judge should be placed in appropriate polling stations whenever possible.

ELECTION JUDGE

The seated President of the Board of Directors will be the official Election Judge. This election will be supervised by the Election Judge. Except for the Chairman, current GCCAC Board Members will not supervise nor count the election ballots. In case of a challenge and/or disagreement on the tabulation and outcome of the election, the Committee Chairman will also designate the Polling Places each official is to serve.

ELECTION OFFICIALS

The Galveston County will select one person to serve as an Election Official to render his/her services at a place so designated by the Official Election Judge. Election Officials will be given the option to select two (2) people to serve as Deputies. The Election Official must be an area resident.

ELECTION CANDIDATE

The qualifying candidate with most of the votes cast will be elected as the Area Representative (Board Member) and the qualifying candidate with second highest number of votes will be declared the Alternate. If there is no candidate having most votes to be declared winner, the two candidates having the highest number of votes will go into the run-off. In the run-off, the candidate having a simple plurality of votes will be declared the winner. A qualifying candidate who is unopposed will be elected as the Area Representative (Board Member).

FINAL TABULATION

Final tabulation of the votes will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021, following the closing of the polls (approximately 4:30 p.m.) at the GCCAC Main Office located at 4700 Broadway, Suite C109, Galveston, TX. Election results will be posted at the GCCAC main office, Galveston, and will be publicized in the GCCAC Website. Tabulation will be open to the public and candidates.

CHALLENGES

Any challenge of the election, election results, or voter eligibility must be made in person and in writing by the Candidate to the GCCAC Board of Directors at 4700 Broadway Suite C109, Galveston, TX 77551 within 48 hours after the election polls have closed.

ACCLAMATION

In the event that only one candidate files to run for the board position in any respective county after the filing deadline has passed, the GCCAC President of the Board of Directors shall call the election and that one candidate shall be elected by acclamation.
